MISSION & VISION
The Mar Thoma Evangelistic Association (MTEA) is the missionary wing of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church. Established in 1888, it holds the distinction of being the oldest national missionary movement in India.
“Called to Witness, Commissioned to Serve.”
1. **Vision**
The vision of the Association is rooted in the “Great Commission” (Matthew 28:18-20). It envisions a world where the light of the Gospel reaches every heart, transcending geographical and social barriers. Its core vision is to build a community that witnesses the saving grace of Jesus Christ through word and deed. The vision statement can be summed up as- ‘To be a vibrant, Spirit-filled witness of the Kingdom of God, upholding the apostolic faith and the Reformation light, dedicated to the spiritual renewal of the faith community and the transformation of society through the liberating power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.’
2. **Mission**
The MTEA operates with a multi-dimensional mission to extend the Kingdom of God:
• Evangelization: To preach the Gospel to those who have not yet heard it, both within and outside India.
• Social Transformation: To understand and address the sufferings of society through various mission fields, hospitals, schools, and destitute homes.
• Bible Study and Prayer: To ground the faith community in the systematic study of the Word of God and intercessory prayer.
• Nurturing Witnesses: To equip the clergy and evangelists to be effective witnesses, ensuring the Church remains missionary in its very nature.
